Structural Conservation

Reinforcements applied in the past, restraining frames or poor environmental conditions can damage panel paintings.

Structural conservation is a specialized field that requires fine woodworking skills, knowledge of wood and adhesive science and  hands-on experience. The Panel Paintings Initiative, launched by the Getty Foundation in 2008, granted us residencies with the leading experts of the field to acquire those competences.

We offer tailored solutions in coordination with the paint layer conservator for maintenance, repair and re-gluing, reconstruction of missing material, removal of non-original reinforcements, design and installation of auxiliary supports and flexible framing.
